Warm Greetings!

Most of the local birds are nesting or raising their broods so the activity at the feeders may appear to be

slower than a month ago.  Parents will introduce their young to the feeders that they have frequented,

so get ready for some fledgling antics.

With the recent increase in the temperature, and little rain, it is important to offer the birds a water source

of some type.  We have been fortunate to see birds that are not typical feeder birds at our bird bath …

pairs of Great Crested Flycatchers and Prothonotary Warblers!  These beautiful birds are a treat to watch

Have you ever wondered why a bird was behaving the way that is was?  The June Seminar will explain

some of the reasons that birds display different actions.  “Think Like a Bird: Understanding Bird Behavior”

will be held at the shop on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at 11:00 AM.  Please call to reserve your chair

(843/748-0989).

Father’s Day Sale – 20% off regular prices of Eco-Tough Feeders.  These sturdy feeders are made

from recycled milk jugs and will serve you well for many years.  They are designed to accommodate feeder

birds of all sizes … Northern Cardinals and Blue Jays can comfortably dine along with the Chickadees and

Finch.  This special will be available through 6/15/19 at the Surfside Beach shop.

We have had great success with the Bluebird Trail at Huntington Beach State Park.   Four out of the

six nest boxes fledged baby birds.  Five Eastern Bluebirds fledged from Box 1 (see photos below), four

Carolina Chickadees from Box 2, five Carolina Chickadees from Box 3 and five Carolina Wrens from Box 5.

The nest boxes have been cleaned out and prepped for round two.  If you are interested in participating

in the monitoring process, please let us know!  With the folks who are already monitoring, you would need

to commit to an hour one day per month. Training and equipment are provided.
